The challenge faced by the construction team in implementing the residential units was the planned and very high spans without support facilities.
The lightweight construction project; five residential units with a flat roof-ceiling construction, was completed with a technical-creative solution from Peikko. In the process, DELTABEAM® composite beams were successfully installed as the primary supporting structure for both the top floor apartments and the cantilevered canopy.
What specific requirements did the project have in terms of timber construction?
The attic apartments were designed to feature spacious, beam-free living areas. This design requirement resulted in relatively large ceiling spans, which in conventional timber construction could only be achieved with very thick floor slabs. Due to the
restriction on maximum building height in the local zoning plan, this solution was therefore not feasible, so alternatives had to be found.
How were these solved with Peikko?
The structural engineer worked with Peikko to develop a solution with the slimmest possible floor cross-section. Peikko DELTABEAM® was used as the primary load-bearing structure, forming the top floor slab together with KLH floor panels. The connection between wood and steel was achieved through doweling and grouting.
Why did you choose this company?
Peikko’s DELTABEAM® in combination with the KLH floor panels represented the most cost-effective solution for the requirements.
